U of T ranked in top 20 globally across all broad subject areas: QS World University Rankings by Subject
The University of Toronto ranked among the top 50 universities in the world in 46 subjects – more than any other institution

The University of Toronto is ranked first in Canada and among the top 20 universities in the world across all five broad subject areas tracked by the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025.
The annual rankings, compiled by London-based Quacquarelli Symonds, draw on data gleaned from surveys, research citations and international partnerships to evaluate the academic and research excellence of universities across 55 specific subjects, which are then grouped into five broad categories.
Of those broad categories, U of T ranked among the top 20 globally across the board: life sciences and medicine (13th), social sciences and management (14th), arts and humanities (14th), engineering and technology (17th), and natural sciences (20th).
“These latest rankings reaffirm the breadth and depth of excellence across the University of Toronto,” said U of T President Meric Gertler. “Coupled with the global reputation of our graduates among employers, this uniquely positions U of T to play a leadership role in addressing the world’s most urgent challenges.”
